Off to College With Acne

Dear Birdy,

I am just heading out to college and I'm really worried people will pick on me because I have the most terrible acne. At school, people got used to me, and, because i was a great athlete, i was accepted. However, my new college is really imposing and I wont be doing many sports there. Please help me, Birdy, I am so anxious.

Hey there, Dean

First of all, take a deep breath! Starting college can be both exciting and nerve-wracking, especially when you're worried about how others might perceive you. I totally get it; acne can be tough to deal with, but remember, you're so much more than your skin.

Your athleticism and talents made you accepted at school, and that's incredible! But let me tell you, college is a whole new ballgame. It's a chance to meet new people who will appreciate you for who you are, beyond just sports.

Embrace your unique qualities and be confident in yourself. College is a melting pot of diverse individuals, and everyone has their insecurities. You won't be alone in feeling anxious about new experiences.

Focus on what you're passionate about, whether it's academics, arts, music, or any other interests. College is a fantastic opportunity to explore different aspects of yourself.

Don't let acne hold you back from making connections. True friends will see beyond your skin and appreciate the person you are inside.

If you ever feel overwhelmed or need someone to talk to, don't hesitate to reach out to campus resources or join clubs and groups where you can find like-minded people.

Remember, college is a fresh start and a chance to grow and embrace the wonderful person you are. I believe in you, and I know you'll do amazing things!

Wishing you all the best on this exciting new journey,
